Common questions

Tax notice questions, answered.

What should I prepare before the consultation?

Before your appointment, please upload the following through our secure client portal so we can prepare for the meeting.

  • The complete notice, including all pages and the response deadline.
  • Related tax returns, payment records and previous responses to the tax agency.

We will request any additional records needed for the work after you decide to proceed. If a listed item is unavailable, contact us before your appointment.

How are fees determined?

Fees depend on the tax issues and years involved, the condition of your records, and the filings or representation needed. We quote the agreed work before it begins.

Does an IRS letter mean I’m being audited?

Not necessarily. A letter may concern a balance, a change to your return or a request for information. We’ll review it to determine what it means and whether a response is needed.

Can you help if someone else prepared my return?

Yes. We’ll review the return, notice and supporting records before confirming the work and fee.

Can you reduce what I owe?

We can assess available options, including payment arrangements and potential penalty relief. Eligibility and outcomes depend on your circumstances. We do not guarantee a reduction or settlement.

What if the deadline is close?

Call and tell us the deadline shown on your notice. We’ll confirm whether we can help within the time available.

Do I need to visit your office?

No. We can work together by phone, email and secure client portal, or meet by appointment at our Port Washington office.
